Description

Fr. Michael Gaitley There is a great paradox in the spiritual life - that it is our weaknesses that bring the greatest profit to our souls rather than our strengths. This is the wisdom of many of the great saints - St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Louis de Montfort, Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, and Blessed John Paul II, to name a few. St. Paul knew this as well. In 2 Corinthians 12, he writes, "And lest the greatness of the revelations should puff me up, there was given me a thorn for the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to buffet me. Concerning this thrice I besought the lord that it might leave me. And he has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for thee, for strength is made perfect in weakness.' Gladly therefore I will glory in my infirmities, that the strength of Christ may dwell in me. Wherefore I am satisfied, for Christ's sake, with infirmities, with insults, with hardships, with persecutions, with distresses. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
